Lens Piece
Persistence
10 photos Photography February 2020 Exhibition text: The purpose of of this piece is to take ten pictures of a certain culture within the photos. These photos I took touch on the overall theme of persistence. The photographer I was inspired by was Robbie Jay Barratt, a photographer for a Russian soccer team. One of the photos he took that I will be analyzing is an untitled piece portraying two soccer players in action |
Inspiration
Untitled - Robbie Jay Barratt (2018)
|
My inspiration is Robbie Jay Barratt, a English contemporary sports focused photographer. I became interested when I saw his photography because it showed action shots of a sport that he enjoyed. As a result I was inspired to do the same thing, sports are something I am very interested in and I am very motivated when it comes to them. Wrestling was also in a sense like a muse for me within this project, seeing people who work so hard everyday even when they are tired and even when they are hurt to some extent.

Process
In order to start my process I needed to look for a photographer that was sports related. Originally I wanted to take photos of flowers but then I quickly realized it is winter and there are no flower around my area. I then realized a lot of my time in the day is dedicated to sports so I realized I could enjoy my sport and art at the same time. I took many photos many were blurry and others weren't to the standards I built for myself, as a result I deleted many and others. Some of the pictures I took during tennis season so I had to look through my camera roll to find them. The wrestling photos are of this season so I took them around the course of these last two months. I also edited some of the photos slightly by bringing up the contrast, saturation, and brightness of the photos.

Experimentation
During the process I took many pictures over a hundreds but I most definitely did not like all of them. I knew I was not going to use the majority of them and as a result I deleted many. Something I struggled with was getting the pictures since I decided to take most of them on another device, transferring them to the computer to upload was another problem I had that was frustrating but after a lot of downloading I got them uploaded to the website. Another problem I had was editing the contrast, brightness, and saturation. Most of the time they did not look right but I did my best to fix them to look as if that's how they were originally. |
Reflection:
This lens project was came with many challenges. One of the challenges I faced while doing this project was remember I was doing the project when I was at the meets. The Wrestling meets in particular were very loud and rowdy so at times I did not remember to take photos so I had to wait till the next meet to be able to take more photos. Something i am proud of during this project were some of the photographs i took during the tennis season. I like how the bright lighting during the season was very

Compare and Contrast:
Robbie Jay Barratt's piece and my pieces are similar in the sense that they are all sports related photos. The sports that I focused on were wrestling and tennis. The sport Barratt focused on primarily is soccer, he used to work in a studio. He once photographed athletes of a variety of sports but as he grew in the industry he got to take photos officially. Rather than taking photos from a studio, he took photos from the sidelines of the fields. I did something similar in some of the photos the photos I took were of the practices and other s were on the sidelines of the matches.
